Eric’s Story

On July 8, 2007, while enjoying a day at the lake with Jacqui, their daughter, Jenna, and neighborhood friends, and family, 36 year-old Eric Knutson suffered a tragic, life altering spinal cord injury and fracture of the C-4 vertebrae in his neck. The spinal cord injury resulted in paralysis in both of his arms, torso and both legs. No movement, no sensation.

Eric was immediately air-lifted to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI where he received state of the art care for his injury. The weeks following involved a surgery to stabilize the fracture and fuse together the vertebrae. Eric was also on a ventilator and struggled with pneumonia and infections.

Through faith, prayers, positive thoughts and excellent medical care, Eric has made enormous strides. With intensive in-home therapy, Eric continues to recover at home and has regained limited use of his left arm which gets stronger and more functional every day. His right arm is strengthening slowly and he recently moved his right leg!

A Reason for Hope and a Race Against Time

Even in this day of incredible medical advances, spinal cord injuries remain a mystery. On a daily basis doctors who have made judgments about recovery are proved wrong through strong will, determination and prayer and break-through therapies.

The signs that Eric’s body is sending, thanks to his regular weekly therapy sessions, such as using his arm and moving his leg are signals of hope that he is capable of more.

Timing, however, is a critical component. For maximum recovery, Eric must begin intensive treatment within the next few weeks.
